Hawk Eye View looks at contemporary third party surveillance in North America. Considering Snowden’s revelations, Stéfy looks at NSA & CSIS sites through Google Earth imagery. The work brings into conversation both government parties, while also reflecting the ways Google Earth & Maps acquire metadata to politically ensure a survival state. Third party surveillance is part of a larger preemptive strategy applied by both Canada & the US.
The overall theme of this exhibition is revealing concealed spaces. The surveillance gaze shifts by giving viewers the tools to observe the institutions that are normally doing the ‘surveilling’. Interactive & disarming, Stéfy explores ‘contemporary surveillance’ through visually mapping cryptic information.
